Picking Out Baby Strollers and Car Seats

It isn’t as easy for us as it was for our parents when it comes to buying baby strollers and car seats.  Back in the day, there were only a few manufacturers and all the models looked the same with only a few minor differences, like colors.  With the huge selection that people have today, it can not only be overwhelming but entirely confusing to find the right one.  This article will give you some tips for choosing the baby strollers and car seats that are the best for you and your child.

One of the first things that you need to consider is safety.  This applies to baby strollers and car seats.  There is no doubt that you agree, the safety of your child comes first above everything else. When looking at strollers and car seats you need to make sure that the manufacturers have put them through the gambit and they have tested true.  Every stroller should have an automatic lock that clicks into place when you unfold it so that when you put your child into it it doesn’t fold back up on them. The car seat needs to meet or exceed they safety standards that the govenrment has set forth for these items.

Baby Strollers

For baby strollers there are a few things to consider. Make sure that the stroller unfolds and refolds easily.  There are many models that allow you to open and close the strollers with one hand, which is great when the other hand is glued to your child.  The stroller must have brakes and make sure that they engage easily.  Many of the models on the market have brakes that engage on th back whell with a simple touch of your foot.  The nest thing that you should consider is the handle  Many strollers these days come with item holders on the handles so  that you have a convenient place to carry your things like cell phones, purse, cup holders and shopping bags.  You last point of concern needs to be what exactly the stroller is built out of. Is the stroller going to be strong enough to hold up under use or is it simply to flimsy for regular wear and tear.  Strollers that are made from stronger materials like steel and aluminum will fare much better than flimsier materials like plastic.

Car Seats

Choosing the car seat for your child is more about what will work best for you and your child, other than the initial safety requirements.  Manufacturers develop car seats for all of the developmental stages of your childs growth.  Seats that are “rear facing”, are made for children that are 20 poounds or less and less than a year old.  Carseats that are forward facing are diesigned for children from the age of 1 to 4 with a weight of 20 to 40 pounds. Booster-type car seats are for ages 4 to 8, up to four foot nine inches in height.  A regular seat belt can be used on children beyond these stages of development.  For an all around seat that is designed for nearly all of the developmental stages, you will want to go with a style known as the convertible car seat.

Ultimately, the baby strollers and car seats that you select should be more about what is easy for you to use and what is comfortable, yet safe, for your child.  It should never be a difficult task to make use of your baby stroller or car seat.
